Posted in category Health

In these harsh economic times it can be difficult to stay positive, especially if your future hangs in the balance. You may be struggling to keep your head above water, as the recession leaves millions of us jobless, and uncertain of our future.

However in the ever prevalent words of Bob Marley, “Don’t worry.” Here we give you some top tips to keep you sane, and beat the recession blues with a very large stick.

1. Exercise!

If you’re feeling depressed get some exercise. Exercise is a proven remedy for depression and can help you in a number of ways:

  • When we exercise it increases the amount of feel good endorphins in your body, therefore giving you a natural high.
  • You can set yourself new goals when exercising, giving you something positive to focus on, and giving you a new day to day purpose in life.
  • With the regular exercise you’ll start to look better, giving you more confidence within yourself.
  • If you get involved in a new sport or club, it gives you the chance to meet new people and make new friends.

You don’t need money to exercise either. Go for a walk or run, wipe the dust of your old bike, or take a look at this body workout, where no equipment is needed.

2. Eat Right

It is widely suggested that eating the right foods can improve your health, both physically and mentally. If you’re worried about work or money, then a few simple changes in diet can have huge benefits on your mood:

  • Cut down on things such as alcohol, caffeine and sugar. Although they may give you a temporary mood lift, this is only short lived, and you’ll inevitably feel worse than before.
  • Include more water, vegetables, fruit and fish in your diet. Fruit and vegetables aren’t expensive and can easily be incorporated into your meals. They’ll make you feel healthier, can reduce stress, and when combined with exercise can help you lose weight.
  • Also swap foods containing additives and saturated fat with wholegrains and foods high in protein. These foods will leave you feeling fuller for longer, and stop you from snacking on chocolate and sweets.

3. Take time for yourself

Taking some time out of your day to relax is a great way to combat stress and fend off your recession blues. Everyone has their own way of relaxing such as:

  • Listening to music
  • Reading
  • Meditation
  • Watching Tv

The important thing here is not the activity, but the fact that you’re taking some time to yourself, to relax and forget your problems.

4. Spend time with others

Spending time with your family and friends is always important, but maybe even more so when times are hard. Your family and friends can be your anchor when things aren’t going well, and together you can provide eachother with the support to overcome difficult times.

Talking about your problems is a big step in overcoming them, and thats what family and friends are there for!

5. Look at the Big Picture
